What is - Free Download Manager?
Free Download Manager is a lightweight, powerful and easy-to-use application. It is designed for downloading files and whole web sites from any remote server via HTTP, HTTPS and FTP. Just click on a normal download link with your browser and Free Download Manager pops up. If you don't want to use it for this download, just click <cancel> and the normal browser download window pops up. With Free Download Manager you'll avoid problems related to downloading. Unfortunately my third party download site sofware will not support interrupted download file restarts.

When the downloading process is interrupted you needn't start from the beginning again. Free Download Manager can resume the broken download from where it was interrupted, saving you time, nerves and money. Some servers don't support download resuming, but Free Download Manager will warn you about it, allowing you to decide on downloading.

Some downloads are throttle limited in speed. For high-speed Internet connections, you can split the file into parts and download multiple parts each at the throttle limited speed, thereby increasing the virtual throttled download speed. For dial-up users, this amazing program throttles the download while you are doing browser actions and then regains download speed when your browser activity halts. No longer do you have to give up browser speed during a file download.

Free Download Manager allows you to organize downloaded files by their type, placing them in predefined folders. You can schedule a list of downloads and start and pause downloading files at a preset. You can even download a spider copy of a webpage including all its links; for off-line use. Needless to say, I am impressed and this program is in my tool tray.

The carb adapter plate to cylinder head gasket is known to become leaky from vibration of the engine. This IS NOT the gasket between the carb and the adapter plate. Usually two screws hold this adapter plate to the cylinder head, then the carb bolts to the adapter plate. When this adapter plate gasket starts leaking, the engine will start and die but never keep running. Replace this leaky gasket and the carb may not need to be serviced at all!

Several people have had issues sequencing the thick gasket when reassembling these carbs. The pin gauge link above is a high resolution picture of the factory pin gauge with a ruler included so you can make your own gauge. It was provided by a fellow user. I personally just use 1/16-inch which is 0.0625-inches. It appears that this one gauge works for all the referenced carbs. You rest the gauge on the carb body and the middle prong should just touch the fuel flow fulcrum lever. This gauge is used to set the fuel flow fulcrum lever height, so it is reasonable that making a gauge with the centerprong short by the same amount as this gauge is long, would detect the proper pin height above the diaphragm gasket surface that mates with the carb. The inverse of this pin gauge may help you select the correct gasket pair sequence. This gauge does not have to be elaborate. I used an index card and taped the center extension in position and that worked just fine. For the inverse gauge just tape the extensions on both sides to make the center recessed. One of you also sent me a copy of the factory troubleshooting chart. This may prove quite useful. Be sure to check it out. This image is quite large and easy to read. If you own gasoline powered tools then you know that those tools usually quit working after about two years. The typical reason they fail is because the carburetor gets contaminated from the fuel. As the fuel ages, the combination of oil and fuel turns the fuel into a jello like substance which can clog the fuel filter and the carburetor.

I have developed a 12 page PDF file which provides a very rigerous explaination of how those carburetors work, and how to fault isolate your problem. This document is currently amended on 27 June 2010. All previous versions an now invalid.

The file is 2.4Mb in length, so be patient if you are on dial-up. When you open the file, the first page will display before the rest of the pages finish downloading. So the download only needs to download about 300Kb to start viewing the PDF.

GM Power Sliding Door Repair Basics.

Many people experience issues with these Power Sliding Doors (PSD). The biggest problem I have found is the complete lack of complete information to properly analyze this PSD problem from a high level perspective.

The first problem is in finding a power sliding door description in the owners manual. It is listed under “power” and not under “doors”. Once you find the location in the owner’s manual, read to the section about resetting the power sliding door. My example will be for the 2001 Chevy Venture. Your particular model may use different fuse signals. The manual uses fuse numbers 4, 5, 27,29; but I will use the fuse function name so it may apply across different models.

The manual clearly states that any one of these fuses being blown will require a power sliding door reset. The fuses are the (4) 40-amp power seat/side door fuse (an instrument panel fuse) which provides the brute power to run the PSD motors; the (5) Ignition Main-1 fuse (under hood), which powers many accessories (ABS, IGN, Cruise, etc) so you would probably know when this fuse is blown; (27) Rear Backup Light fuse (under hood) (not so obvious when working on a PSD problem, and the (29) Radio fuse (under hood) (includes driver information display, heater & A/C control, remote door locks, and PSD control) so you would probably know when this fuse is blown.

The big magic trick here is the Backup Light fuse. Apparently it uses this fuse to sense when the car transmission shifter is moved out of the park position.

Our problem started when both power sliding doors would only open manually but would close electrically. We later found water in the tail-light assemblies and this water apparently blew the Backup Light fuse. After replacing both tail-light assemblies, the tail lights, turn signals and brake lights were all found to work properly. We forgot to check the Backup lights which had the only blown fuse.

Our first step was to disconnect the car battery to see if that reset things. It did not, and now the power sliding doors were completely dead and would not open or close electrically. Further research lead us to perform the PSD reset procedure, but it did not work because of the blown Backup Light fuse. The Haynes repair manual specified the power sliding door reset procedure but failed to mention all the fuses that had to be good.

After more searching on the Internet, I found others who stated that the reset procedure was in the owner’s manual. So I scanned the manual and found the power sliding door under “power” in the index. It mentioned the four fuses described above, and that is when we found the blown Backup Light fuse.

Replaced the Backup Light fuse, performed the PSD reset in the owner’s manual, and both doors now work properly electrically.
